Coming Soon! The 2021 Acura TLX

After an initial production run, the TLX midsize sedan from the luxury Acura marquee is completely redesigned for the 2021 model year for a second go-round. With the RLX no longer here, the TLX steps up as Acura's flagship sedan. In style, performance, and comfort and convenience features, the Acura TLX is primed to woo drivers in the Pryor area who want an affordable sport-oriented premium ride.

At the base level, the 2021 Acura TLX will include the A-Spec sport package. This is nowhere more evident than the sedan's exterior, which has a sleek profile and angled surfaces for a light-and-shadow contrast look. The trademark diamond pentagon grille is now a bit bolder and wider. The grille is flanked by next-generation Jewel Eye LED headlights to provide supreme illumination at all times, and they are joined by rear decklid-based LED headlights. Both pairs of lights get a darkened treatment, and gloss-black accents are applied from front to rear to evoke a more menacing aura. Dual exhaust outlets are present in the rear to help the engine breathe better, in addition to making the vehicle look sportier; a rear decklid spoiler joins the list. Shark Grey-finished 19-inch wheels complete the A-Spec package for a light yet sturdy feel on the road.

Overall, the new TLX stands low and wide. Compared to the first-generation model, the 2021 model year has a longer wheelbase, a wider body with wider front and rear tracks, an extended dash-to-axle dimension, and a lower roof. The 2021 TLX certainly looks more aggressive than models of years past.

Although the standard engine remains the 2.0-liter VTEC inline four-cylinder (I4), this iteration gains 66 more horsepower and almost a hundred additional foot-pounds of torque. This output increase results in greater acceleration ability, getting you from 0 to 60 mph in a shorter time. This I4 is more powerful than the previous generation's optional 3.5-liter V6.

The 2.0-liter turbo I4 is pinned to a brand-new 10-speed automatic transmission. This gearbox comes with a Sequential SportShift shifter, which provides the excitement of absolute control of gear shifting-similar to a manual transmission. Also included are steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters, which provides gear-shifting convenience; you don't necessarily need to reach for the shifter. In all, this 10-speed automatic transmission provides a wider ratio range, more discrete gears, and a lower first gear than the nine-speed dual-clutch and nine-speed automatic gearboxes on the previous-generation model.

Type S

The new TLX is largely built on the Type S Concept model introduced two years earlier. So, it's not surprising that the sedan borrows a few design cues that characterize the high-performance variant, which has returned after a decade-long absence. Acura provides the option of the Type S package for 2021, and this package further elevates the TLX's sporty appearance. In place of the 19-inch alloy wheels, Type S offers two 20-inch options: a set of split-10-spoke wheels from the Type S Concept and a lighter "Y-Spoke" wheel inspired by the two-seat Acura NSX sports car. The front fascia gains a Type S badge-bearing grille and larger side air intakes. Added are an aggressively styled front splitter and rear diffuser, and the dual exhaust system gives way to a quad exhaust outlet.

Performance-wise, the turbo 2.0-liter I4 gives way to a larger and more powerful 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 for even quicker take-offs. Plus, while front-wheel drive is standard on the regular TLX, you have the choice of upgrading to Acura's fourth-generation SH-AWD system, which sends engine torque to all four wheels to keep them planted on the driving surface around Owasso.
